VERY proud of our initial newsletter. For some reason, pregnant cops continues to be a perplexing issue for some police agencies:

Thanks Lisa! Surprisingly, this continues to be the #1 issue I encounter for women cops around the U.S. It seems unthinkable, but your experience is very common. I have 1000 (literally) horror stories about women who were sent home with no pay and told to come back "when you're not pregnant anymore" or put on the street until their due date. The sad thing is, it's all a no-brainer if a department has a good pregnancy policy and a willingness to utilize light duty. There's so much misunderstanding about this issue!

What a great article. As one of only 2 females on my force I had once brought up the issue of what if we hire another female cop and she wants to have children (both myself and the other female officer are done having kids). One of my bosses replied as a joke , We only hire those who are done having children or dont want any. Then we discussed writing a policy for the pregnant officer. Betsy I saw a video you posted on police one that discussed this issue and took alot of advice from it to input in our s.o.p manual, so I wanted to say thank you
