Don't Let Winter Weather Spoil Your Cardio!

I love to run outside preferably 50 degrees or warmer but given recent Chicago weather that is not happening any time soon. We all know the treadmill is NOT the next best thing BUT I have found a challenging cardio interval workout. It is from fitness guru, Jackie Warner's, latest book, This is Why You're Fat: 

  • Raise the ramp to 15, keep your speed anywhere from 3.0 to 4.0 depending on your athletic ability. Do this for 2 minutes.
  • Lower the ramp to 1.0 and jog for 2 minutes at a speed of 4.5 to 6.5.
  • Lower the ramp and walk for one minute.
  • Repeat 4 times (or more).

I was skeptical at first, what could replace an endless outdoor run loaded with hills and stairs to climb? But this workout is a killer! Try to push yourself each time and increase the speed which is the goal -- to increase your speed -- not the time or distance.You will be surprised at how difficult the incline portion is but equally surprised at how easy the run portion is.
