This past Saturday, Feb 26th, I attended the 8 hour pistol class taught by Jack Manfre. It was the first WTA training event I have attended. I am really good at finding an excuse -usually my family- for not going to any kind of training that involves spending my time and my money. The WTA email for this one grabbed my attention because of the instructor. About 5 years ago, Karen and I attended a similiar class taught by Jack. I left the class knowing I was a better shooter and feeling… Continue

Philanthropy has its benefits, well at least for Chicago Police Detective (and WTA member!) John Folino, who landed the job of Technical Advisor on The Chicago Code after successfully bidding on a silent auction prize at a fundraising event for Officer Michael Gordon. Folino, a 12 year veteran of the CPD,… Continue

While at SHOT Show I had the pleasure of meeting Brian K. Sain, one of the founding members of AmericanSnipers.org, a non-profit association dedicated to supporting our snipers. Snipers require extremely specialized equipment that is very costly and as a result they often operate without it. Since 2002,… Continue

Today has been good so far. Heard a debrief on a 56 hour hostage incident in Sacramento June 2010. Not going to provide any info - read about it in the next newsletter! But would like to mention a positive point from yesterday that was almost forgotten in my angry tirade at the idiot that mentioned the whole kitchen thing! The people from Diamondback came over to the table to chat. They were very excited about the ballistic shield class they will be doing in April with the WTA. Not only that,… Continue

All in all have had a good reception. More people stopping by to get information. But just want to pass on one conversation I had today... "Why say women's association if men can join?" I tried to explain how women in law enforcement are looking for more avenues to train and encourage women to train, however, he interrupted me to say "well you can cook can't you?" I didn't quite understand what he was asking so I asked him to repeat himself and he again said "you can cook can't you, there's… Continue

At the Association of SWAT Personnel - Wisconsin manning the WTA table at the vendor portion. I am happy to state that of the three women that have come into the conference, two are already members and the third was really excited about it. The guys are avoiding me, but I keep trying! However a few other vendors have told me that they see the WTA everywhere now - again good! Just wanted to say great job Karen and I'm happy to be a part of the WTA!

I love to run outside preferably 50 degrees or warmer but given recent Chicago weather that is not happening any time soon. We all know the treadmill is NOT the next best thing BUT I have found a challenging cardio interval workout. It is from fitness guru, Jackie Warner's, latest book, This is Why You're Fat:
- Raise the ramp to 15, keep your speed anywhere from 3.0 to 4.0 depending on your athletic ability. Do this for 2 minutes.
- Lower the ramp to 1.0 and jog…
