Rifle 102

This class is for Law Enforcement only.  Rifle 102 takes the new AR-15 shooter to the next step, beginning with different zeroing philosophies, popular equipment options in slings, optics, add-ons, and various stance/grip combinations to find which works best for each shooter.  In a patrol environment, the majority of rifle handling is done from the standing position, or from behind cover, so today’s class will focus on accurate shots from the standing position and from behind cover.  Shooters will learn how to safely load and unload their rifles, both for range use and street use.  Shooters will sight in their rifles and begin with drills that illustrate the difference between point of aim and point of impact at various distances, and will demonstrate perimeter awareness.  Shooters will shoot from behind cover from the standing position.  Optics are optional, iron sights are mandatory.  Shooters who have both will equally split their shooting time between the two sight systems.  

This class will be taught outside on a “protected” range as I call it.   The firing line is covered, but the range itself is open.  The range is protected from wind, as it is surrounded on all sides.  Heaters will be provided if need be and there are heated classrooms and bathrooms for breaks.  Dress appropriately and be sure to bring food and water as lunch will be short.  

Required equipment:

Department ID card

Patrol rifle with iron sights (optic optional)

Sling

Eye and ear protection

Clothing appropriate to the weather

Food and water

200 rounds of ammunition

3 magazines

Patrol gear(duty belt and whatever is used to carry rifle magazines on duty)

Baseball hat( one that will fit over winter hat) to protect shooter’s face and eyes from hot brass.

Maximum class size is 12.

Please arrive at the range facility with an unloaded rifle.  Unloading the rifle in the parking lot area is not acceptable.

While it is suggested that Officers attend classes sequentially, it is not required.  These classes have no prerequisites, with the exception of Rifle 105.
